>Here is something to try some time when you’re getting ready for bed. Go through your ordinary ritual for finishing the day: Brush your teeth, floss, put on your under eye treatment; whatever you do, run through the standard ablutions. Put on your nightgown, turn down your sheets, and then when it’s time to climb into your bed, I dare you to dive in head first. Plunge your head down under the sheets and burrow all the way down into there, so that your head is where your feet would normally be and your feet stick out where your head usually is. Watch what your mind does during that process, and then lie there and observe until the air under there gets stuffy or until you get bored.
Habitual patterns are fascinating, even gorgeous things, but they are so hard to view clearly until or unless they are broken.
